Redefining Beauty

Flowers Do Not Diminish One Another's Beauty

woman with flowersWhat makes a meadow full of spring wildflowers so captivating and beautiful? Not the appearance of one, but the abundance of many flowers with different colors, shapes, fragrances, sizes, and stages of development.

The beauty of one flower--say a curvy, purple violet, does not diminish the beauty of another--perhaps a bright, golden sunburst of a dandelion

Conference Teachers

2012.6 c ech in yarrow smallAs a young woman at 21, I was blessed to have Susun Weed become my mentor. She is a wise elder who showed me how to connect to the innate wisdom of the earth, the plants and myself as a woman. I am delighted to announce that she, along with Rachel Bagby, Pam Montgomery and Sally Fallon will be joining us for the 2013 Southeast Wise Women Herbal Conference.

These four women are wise crones who have carried the wisdom of the past, often lost or forgotten in our modern generation. As they pass this knowledge to us, we become the carriers as well, weaving the past into the future.

Meddle with Nettle

Written by Corinna Wood, Posted in Corinna's Corner, Herbal Medicine, Local Plants, Nourishing Foods, Women's Wellness

DSC 5110Anyone who loves green, growing things becomes enchanted in springtime. I love to go foraging during those first warm days, and, well, sometimes I become distracted. One particularly fine afternoon recently, a friend and I were blissfully picking violets near an old barn when my arm brushed against a nearby plant, and I felt a familiar tingle – an electricity – where we had touched. Nettle! How could I have missed her? Not one to be ignored, she quickly got my attention, and that of my friend as well.

Before I begin extolling her virtues, perhaps I should address her antisocial side. It’s unfortunate - nettle’s inhospitable demeanor belies her true nature as an incredibly generous herbal ally. Few plants provide such a rich resource to help nurture our wellness and nourish our bodies.

Our New Look

Written by Corinna Wood, Posted in Women's Wellness

2012.4 c grape arborThis spring, I am delighted to share with you the new look of Southeast Wise Women's website! I’ve been working this winter with staff on an initiative to create a larger, more beautiful and inclusive container for women to learn, celebrate, and connect in the web of wise woman.

The new website expresses the warm, curvy beauty that reflects the personality of our collective community of wise women. We kept familiar navigation, yet have re-organized content so you can better find important information, resources for learning and opportunities to connect. We have also added a blog aimed at bringing you fresher content.seww-logoblogpost1
